Hello! I wanted to say a little about Maker Mania and post the quick things I made so far. It is an online event with many papercrafting stores giving presentations on using the supplies that come in the kit you buy to participate.
I priced out the things in the kit or something very similar and it added up to more than the kit price or very close. There was a paper set, a die set, embossing folder, a stamp set, guilding flakes, luster wax. So you get all of the ideas and demos for nothing. You don’t make something really specific with the kit but you see at least 60-80 different projects that the participating stores made. They show different techniques and ways you can use the products in the kit. They made cards, scrapbook layouts, mixed media projects. I enjoyed it and thought it was well worth the money.
The event was 3 days with presentations all day each day. You can go back and watch all of the videos that were recorded in Facebook. Then you can choose some projects to make with your kit and get lots of ideas. At the start of each day they did a quick project which you could do right then. Here is mine.
Bump Out Card – I used some paper I had in my stash, the flower die set that came in the kit, a couple die sets that I had. Funny thing is I just grabbed some paper I’ve had forever. I was not that excited about the paper and I ended up really loving the result. For the grays I used the same gray paper for all the gray but I colored over the leaves and stem with a bit of a darker gray Copic pen. I used Spellbinders die Sentiments 3, Sizzix Free Style Florals die, Papertrey Ink Mat Stack #4 & Layers Mat Stack #4 dies.
Entered over at the Die Cut Divas June Challenge of Birthdays.
Here we have candy/treat holders – The brown and red one is the measurements Nina gave us. And the orange and green one is one I made by changing the measurements. Which by the way I did before my coffee and it involved fractions. Wow. Ha. I made it to fit two Ghiradelli squares. Cute.
Next up we have a mini album – Seriously it was very quick to make. One sheet of patterned paper. I used the die set from the kit to cut out the flowers from a book page. I inked everything up also.
This is a panel where I tried a technique that will become something. Just apply alcohol ink to Yupo, blow around to spread ink, while you still have some wet spots drop guilding flakes on so they stick to those spots. A pretty look.
It’s been awhile but here is another card I made from a technique learned from Maker Mania. For this one you put alcohol ink on acetate and then wrap it with plastic wrap and scrunch it up. Leave to dry. There you have it… stained glass. The flower is die cut along with the sentiment. I really like this technique and I like using an acetate card base I have had around for years.
