Watercolor Sympathy Cards

Recently my aunt passed away so I wanted to make a card for each of my cousins. I spent a lot of time growing up at their house. My cousin Susie and I were born 18 days apart. My aunt had alzheimers. I mention this because one time I went to visit and they had her at my cousin’s house for Thanksgiving day. It happened to be my aunt’s birthday. She did not talk rationally but was helping dry dishes. We decided to sing Happy Birthday to her and she piped right in singing it perfectly. Music is pretty amazing even when the mind is not what it used to be.

Here is the three cards I made for my cousins.

For this one I made the flower panel some time ago and thought it was nice for a sympathy card. I watercolored the background on watercolor paper. I heat embossed the flowers in white over that with a Rubbernecker stamp. I cut around the image using a Spellbinders die. The sentiment is stamped using a Paper Smooches set.

When I made this panel I was trying out Jennifer McGuire’s block watercolor stamping techinque.

The technique for this card was a fun one. I colored on a Hero Arts stamp and misted it just a bit and then stamped. I really like the look. Then I decided to make a frame for those flowers. I die cut a deckled rectangle from a watercolor panel. I used the same green as the flowers to color the frame. The sentiment is simply stamped on the frame.

And the third one.. I stamped these pretty flowers on some watercolor paper. I colored them using Zig Clean Color Pens. I stamped over that with a really light ink using a text background stamp. Then I realized the text was not going the direction I wanted it to. So you turn the card and it is all good. I think this image would look better going horitzontal but it would bug me way more to have text going sideways so here it is. The sentiment is stamped using some nice bold black ink (probably Versafine onyx black).

One time when my hub saw a card I made with text he said you can’t read it. Yes I use text from another language on purpose . That’s the way, uh-huh uh-huh I like it, uh-huh, uh-huh!
