I had this background sitting around waiting to be made into something. I was experimenting around one time using sprays on different papers etc. to get some sort of look like Virginia Lu does. I didn’t quite get the same look but I really like this one. I guess you can’t really say any of them look alike but what I am saying is Virginia makes some really awesome sprayed panels that she does different stuff with such as this. Other times I think she sprays a panel and die cuts things from it.
I used Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays for this background I think on watercolor paper. I then heat embossed the two butterflies using black powder. The butterflies are from a Stampendous set called Butterfly Trio. I am not sure that I have used this stamps before. I like how it turned out. The greeting is die cut a couple times using a Spellbinders die from the Sentiments One (S2-082) set.
Recently I was playing around with my Hero Arts daubers and came up with this background. Well actually it was a smaller section on a scrap of paper but I decided to duplicate it. These are the only 3 Hero Arts daubers I have and I happen to really like these colors together.
Background – Hero Arts Long Leaves stencil (SA062). I used Hero Arts daubers in Tide Pool, Butter Cup and Pale Tomato all over.
Sentiment – Neat and Tangled die Hello There cut out twice using fairly thick black paper and stick-it.
The son of a friend of mine graduated from college the end of last year. I don’t know him that well but I was proud of him that he did. I unfortunately forgot about it for several months. So now I have a card made that I want to send him. I just need to get his new address. The reason for all the purple is that was the color of his gown.
Background – Tim Holtz Stars stencil. I used 3 different colors of Distress Ink. The bottom row looks kind of black maybe but it is Dusty Concord. After looking at it a bit I couldn’t take all the white so I sprayed with Gold Color Shine by Heidi Swapp.
Sentiment – I had a double layered black die all done but once I sprayed the gold on I decided to change to shiny gold paper. The die is Scripty Congrats by Lawn Fawn. I also was thinking of maybe using a black mat but liked the purple.
Merry Mondays challenge last week was stockings. At first I thought I don’t really have any stamps or dies for that. But.. I remembered the stamp set from Avocado Arts. How we remember these things from all the hundreds of stamps we have I don’t know. These stocking are not a Christmas set. It is a friends set and has random images with it. The striped stockings were as is and I colored them red and green and the very top of the stocking is colored with gold Wink of Stella. The two polka dot stockings were the opposite direction so I stamped them on acetate and then put paper and the acetate together and now the stockings go the same direction as the others. I colored those green and then used a Hero Arts Cling Dot background stamp (CG139) and some glitter embossing powder to make them polka dotted. The twine hanging the stockings is red & white twine, green & white twine and a thin gold thread twisted all together. The brick background is a Tim Holtz embossing folder. The problem with it was the bricks went the wrong direction so I had to move the paper over in the embossing folder to make it go across horizontally. I added a bit of gray ink on the bricks so they were not all white. The sentiment is one of my very favorite Merry Christmas dies. It is by Find It Trading. I put some Versamark on it and embossed with glitter embossing powder but it doesn’t show up that well.
So I got a card to the challenge again this week. Yeah! This was fun because I finally used an embossing diffuser that I have had sitting around forever. I have six of them and have never used any of them. Well now I know more about using them. I chose one that has a round circle in the middle. I used a snowflake embossing folder with the diffuser outer frame part. So there is a blank (no embossing) spot in the middle. I added some Nuvo Glitter Drops to the embossed snowflakes. I masked off the snowflake area and blended some blue ink for the snowman scene. I used an Altenew stamp with embossing powder to create snow falling in the scene. I hand cut the snow piece on the bottom. I covered it with glue and microfine glitter. The snowman is colored with Copics and hand cut. He is raised up with foam tape. I added some enamel accents in black to the hat. The buttons are colored with silver Wink of Stella and there is some Wink of Stella on the scarf. The sentiment is stamped with blue ink.
Snowman Background – Altenew Snowing stamp with Versamark and Judikins Iridescent Sparkle powder, Hero Arts Pastel Blue ink, Elizabeth Crafts Cool Diamond Microfine Glitter, Hero Arts sentiment from Peace & Joy set (CL880), Hero Arts Navy ink
Snowman – colored with Copics, silver Wink of Stella, black enamel accents, clear Wink of Stella, Hero Arts stamp Let It Snow (CG233)
WHEW! I finally got all my cards on my blog. I have to hand it to all of you that do a lot of blogging. It is time consuming.
For Scrambles you need to use Hero Arts images, dies, embossing folders or stencils. You have 90 minutes to create your card or project. LaVon did a 24 hour Scramble which is nice so we end up with more people creating. In this case you select a 90 minute time frame that works for you.
The challenge LaVon chose for this scramble is to make a background. You can use whatever technique you would like to create an interesting background panel.
Ok let me just say I had an idea and I tried to do something I haven’t really done before. This is probably not wise during a Scramble. So the panel on the left is my first pass and it doesn’t look very good. So I started all over again and I am happy with the second panel.
On the first panel I tried to paint on the watercolor paper without wetting the paper first and after doing the embossing with gold glittery powder. No bueno!
So for the second panel I painted on the colors before embossing. The good thing about the first panel is that it was the map for where to place each color. I wet the watercolor paper before laying on the color on the second panel. I am not sure about the extra bold sentiment but others seem to think it looks ok.
Background – Watercoloring with Gansai Tambi
Flowers and leaves – Hero Arts set You’re So Lucky (CL949), which is brand new to me, and JudiKins Egyptian Gold embossing powder (my favorite even though I don’t do a ton of glitter stuff).
Sentiment – Hero Arts set It’s Your Day (CL661) stamped with Versafine Onyx Black.
Finally getting one in for Merry Monday. The theme this week is clean and simple. Not so easy for me.
Background – Gold Delicata pigment ink & Hero Arts stencil Long Leaves (SA062).
Poinsettia and Leaves – Memory Box die Blooming Poinsettia & Metallic Rub-On accent. Tiny ball things by Recollections for center of flower.
Sentiment – Hero Arts set Peace & Joy (CL880) embossed with PSX gold powder. I actually meant to use a different one.
I decided to make another one but I did not submit this card because it is to similar to my other card.
Background – Gold Delicata pigment ink & The Crafters Workshop stencil Mini Capricious.
Poinsettia and Leaves – I used more of a burgundy paper for this one. I like the red on the other card better. Memory Box die Blooming Poinsettia & Metallic Rub-On accent. Tiny ball things by Recollections for center of flower.
Sentiment – Hero Arts set Peace & Joy (CL880) embossed with PSX gold embossing powder which is not what I meant to use. Oh well.
Recently I went to a product demo type thing at a local newish paper crafting store. The shop is Live Happy Paper Crafts in Danville, CA. They had many Nuvo products with demo’s and time to play with them. They had Glimmer Paste, Mousse, Gilding Flakes, Drops and probably a few things I forgot to mention. The Glimmer Paste is really cool. The glitter seems to be a bit finer than in some other brands which I like. The super cool thing is some of the Glimmer Pastes appear different depending on the color of paper you put them on. The color I got is Tanzanite Lavender. Nuvo products are made by Tonic which I did not know before. Also Tonic seems to have some fun dies and things too. I think of them as paper trimming and cutting products.
I used the Hero Arts Large Lotus stencil for this card I made from the panel above . The sentiment is from the Altenew Painted Greetings set and embossed with black powder on vellum over a paper strip. I colored the butterfly with a Copic pen and added some bling which kind of look likes pearls but they are a clear teal color.
I was inspired by Merry Monday #233 for this card. The theme was 5 of something on the card. I did not make the Merry Monday Challenge but.. I got a Christmas card made. I am not sure that I have used this stamp before. I got to use my chunky embossing powder which has hardly been used.
Patterned Papers – Graphic 45 Christmas pad
Trees – Hero Arts Garland Christmas Tree (F4816) embossed with gold and silver Stampendous chunky embossing enamel
Rectangle Die – MFT Pierced Rectangles Stax
Sentiment – Tim Holtz Tree Blueprint set embossed with white powder
Betty’s theme today is create a card with the colors GOLD AND BLACK and the theme of LOVE. It can be a valentine, anniversary, wedding or any other occasion that works. White, cream or other neutrals are fine with the two main colors. For these Scrambles you need to use Hero Arts images, dies, embossing folders or stencils. You have 90 minutes to create your card or project. Betty did a 24 hour Scramble which is nice so we see more people creating. In this case you select a 90 minute time frame that works for you.
It is funny when I started I thought that is a challenging theme. And look what happened. Two were created during the Scramble and the other one after. That is the great thing about the Scrambles. Someone comes up with a theme and it gets you thinking in a way you might not normally. I also really enjoy seeing what others come up with.
